Electronic Devices

At Wekiva High School we place a great value on your education. We also recognize that electronic devices (including, but not limited to, cell phones, MP3 players, portable gaming devices, etc.) can be disruptive to the learning environment. For this reason, we adhere to the following policy:

 · Students may use electronic devices before and after school, during passing time and during their lunch break. Students may not use electronic devices during those times of day that have been set aside for instruction.

· Students must turn off cell phones and electronic devices before they enter the classroom door regardless of whether the tardy bell has rung (they are no longer in passing time if they have made it to the room)

· Teachers that see a student walk into the room with an electronic device on or out will ask the student to put it away (if it is the first offense). If the situation becomes a chronic problem or if the student refuses to put away the electronic device, the teacher will confiscate the device.

· Confiscated electronic devices will be delivered to the discipline office by the end of the day.

· The discipline office will return the electronic device at the end of the next school day (24 hours).

· The second offense will result in ISS and the discipline office holding the electronic device until a parent/guardian can come to the school during regular operating hours to pick up the device.

· Third and subsequent offenses of the electronic device policy will be handled by the administrative dean as repeated misconduct – resulting in suspension.

· Refusal to turn over an electronic device to a staff member will result in 3 days of suspension for the first offense. Future offenses will result in increased consequences.

Once electronic device issues are brought to the discipline office, all electronic device offenses are cumulative.

Being allowed to use electronic devices on campus during specified times is a privilege. If students abuse this privilege, it will be rescinded.

The school and its staff assume no liability or responsibility for any stolen, lost, or confiscated item.
