Wekiva Agriscience Magnet Program

Vision Statement

  • The Wekiva Agriscience Magnet Program is a unique experience within OCPS, offering rigorous courses relevant to the student’s future and connected to the real world. The Agriscience Magnet prepares high school students for agribusiness careers through a program that addresses the targeted occupations and offers courses of study that provide a direct career path for higher education. The program offers two pathways in agriculture, including animal science and agritechnology.

  • Our Program

Working with agriculture’s leading industries, universities, and leadership experts, the Magnet Program identifies the business and character skills necessary for employee and entrepreneurial success and develops those skills in students. The opportunities for students goes beyond traditional careers associated with agriculture. Students will learn about careers such as food scientists, veterinarians, mechanical engineers, animal nutritionists, wildlife biologists, landscape designers, florists, public relations representatives, and agricultural leaders.

  • Additional Opportunities

  • Field Trips:

  • Our field trips are strategically planned to enhance the student’s learning experience. Career-focused field trips allow students to observe and learn from industry professionals. These opportunities give students a real-world view of the Agricultural Industry.

  • Mentoring Opportunities/Guest Speakers

  • In addition to field trip opportunities, students will hear from guest speakers who are professionals in various Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources careers.

Expect many guest speakers in this program. College recruiters, former students, community service specialists, financial literacy managers, and agricultural industry professionals exemplify how we bring the industry to the classroom.

  • Premier Leadership Organization

  • Wekiva FFA members embrace concepts taught in agricultural science classrooms nationwide, build valuable skills through hands-on experiential learning, and demonstrate their proficiency in competitions based on real-world agricultural skills each year.
