Dear Parents/Guardians: 12 Aug 2019

We welcome your son/daughter to the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) program at Wekiva High School.

The mission of the AFJROTC program is to "Develop Citizens of Character Dedicated to Serving Their Nation and Community. " This is not a military recruitment class and there is no military service obligation for taking this course. Our objectives are: to instill values of citizenship, community service, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment in our high school students/cadets. Our lessons will include discussions in Leadership Education (to include drill & ceremonies), Aerospace Science, and physical training. Classes may have guest speakers and go on field trips (most travel costs covered by the Air Force).

Your son/daughter will be issued a uniform within the first few weeks of class. T-he Air Force uniform is loaned to each cadet but there is a $15 uniform service charge to cover final professional dry cleaning and some incidental items that the Air Force does not provide. We need to collect this charge by the end of the second week of class to expedite uniform issue. We can take cash, check (payable to : Wekiva High School) or through the school's MyPay system https://www.schoolpay.com/pay/for/ ROTC-Uniform-Service-Charge/Sb JeHUK. If there are financial issues with the service charge please contact either instructor or have your son/daughter meet with them. All cadets are required to wear the Air Force uniform one day each week (normally Wednesday). Wear of the Air Force uniform is a critical part of the class, comprising up to 1/3 of their grade for each grade period. The cadets must wear and maintain their uniform according to military regulations, (including appropriate haircut/hairstyle). Cadets are expected to abide by appearance standards beginning the second week of classes and maintain them throughout the entire school year. Failure to wear the uniform regularly and maintain appearance standards may result in removal from the class.

Lost or damaged uniform items may result in a charge to the student. Replacement cost range from $4.00 for a tie to $300.00 for the entire uniform. Strict inventory control will be maintained at issue and tum in at the end of the year. Students who do not properly account for their uniform can have their names placed on the school's debt list that can affect their ability to be issued textbooks for future classes and even withholding of diplomas if not cleared.

We are enthusiastic about being able to provide this opportunity to your son/daughter. We welcome and encourage you to visit our classroom or any of our activities at any time. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns at 407-297-2410 x619-2410.

Thank you for your support of the Wekiva AFJROTC program and your child's education!
