Students who are not in their classroom when the music between classes ends, will report to the discipline office, where they will receive an unexcused tardy pass. Each infraction of the tardy policy after the first one incurs a consequence and is cumulative for the 9 week marking period. HALL PASSES

Students who leave a classroom for any reason are required to use the “hall pass” section of their planner as their pass. Students outside the classroom without their planner are subject to disciplinary action.

Students are to use the restroom during class changes. If use of the restroom is needed during class, with teacher approval, a pass will be given when it is NOT during the first 10 minutes or last 10 minutes of class.

ATTENDANCE

The attendance office is located in the administration 100 building directly next to discipline. The following attendance regulations and procedures must be followed by all students.

1. Wekiva High School expects that students will attend all day, every day.

2. The attendance office is authorized to accept only the following reasons for an excused absence of a student:

a. Illness, injury or other medical conditions

b. Illness or death of a member of the student’s immediate family

c. Recognized (or established) religious holidays and/or religious instruction

d. Medical appointments, in conjunction with a written physician’s statement

e. Prearranged absences of an educational nature approved in advance by the principal.

3. In order to have an absence excused, the parent/guardian must provide a written note on the first day that the student returns to school. It must include a parent/guardian signature and a correct phone number. The excused absence form can be found here.

4. Phone calls and/or emails will not be accepted to excuse an absence.

5. Students will be given the equivalent of the number of days absent plus one day to make up any work assignments which were missed during an absence. It is the student’s responsibility to request the work that was missed, and make up work will only be given for absences that are excused by the attendance office.

6. Ten or more unexcused absences per semester equates to a failing grade for that semester.

7. Students with a mix of 10 excused and unexcused days will be required to pass a competency exam with a “C” or better in order to pass the class.

8. Parents will receive a telephone call to communicate each of the student’s absences. Please update attendance with changes to phone numbers and addresses.

9. If a student knows he/she will be absent and would like to excuse the absence, he/she should request a prearranged absence form from the attendance office at least 3 days in advance of the absence. These absences must be approved by the principal.

10. Excessive absences will be referred to the attendance dean and the school social worker.
